Veterinarians

Dr. Scott Matheson, DVM
Diplomate of American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, Board Certified in Canine and Feline Practice

Doctor Matheson grew up in Woods Cross, Utah and attended the University of Utah where he graduated with a degree in Biology in 1983. He graduated from Colorado State University in 1987.
From 1987 until 1996 he was in General Practice in West Valley. He was the Medical Director in the practice from 1990-1996. Starting in 1996 Doctor Matheson practiced Emergency Medicine in Salt Lake City, until opening PETCARE Animal Hospital in early 2008.
Doctor Matheson became the first veterinarian in Utah to be Board-Certified in Canine and Feline Practice by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (most veterinarians do not yet pursue the additional qualifications required for board certification).
Doctor Matheson has wide-ranging interests in veterinary medicine, including Internal Medicine, Critical Care and Emergency Medicine, Dentistry and General and Orthopedic surgery. Doctor Matheson no longer sees any types of pocket pets or exotics (only sees dogs and cats).

Doctor Matheson is married with two daughters and two grandsons. He has two cats (Marcel and Prim) and two Golden Retrievers (Donkey and Marvin). His hobbies include woodworking, discovering new music on YouTube (and showing the staff)camping, computer programming and listening to music.

Dr. Darin Emch, DVM

Doctor Darin Emch grew up in Zillah, Washington (also Montana and California) and attended college at Brigham Young University. He graduated from the Washington State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1994.
Doctor Emch was in General Practice for 3 years, and then in a Emergency-only referral practice for 11 years.
Darin Emch DVM has clinical interests in General Medicine and Surgery.
Doctor Emch is married and has 5 children and 8 grandchildren, and one cat (Guster).
Doctor Emch enjoys reading, sports, playing computer games, and cooking. He also enjoys listening to country music from the 50’s and 60’s

Dr. Jessica Love, DVM

 

Hospital Administrator

Tessa S, CVT, Hospital Administrator

Tessa is a 2004 graduate of Broadview University with a degree in Veterinary Technology and is a Certified Veterinary Technician (C.V.T.); she worked at several general practices prior to PETCARE Animal Hospital. She is currently working on obtaining a specialty in small animal internal medicine.
Tessa also worked with Dr Matheson and Dr Emch for many years in Emergency Practice prior to helping us start PETCARE Animal Hospital in 2008. She is extremely skilled in many aspects of patient care, anesthesia, dentistry and surgical assisting and laboratory diagnostics.
Tessa has worked with many exotic pets and owned lots of different types of little critters. She has 2 dogs (Franklin & Echo), a macaw (Boscoe), and a bearded dragon (Draco).
Tessa is our Hospital Administrator and is in charge of handling our inventory / special orders, as well as managing our staff.
Tessa is married with a wonderful son and enjoys anything the outdoors has to offer. She has loved living in a small town community, so much that she has become an elected official.

Receptionists

Beka M – Receptionist

Beka has been our receptionist for PETCARE since 2008.

“I’m from Wichita in the great state of KANSAS!  Home of Boeing, Pizza Hut, Coleman and of course ME!  Cessna, sunflower state and the air capital of the world. My dad and brother were pilots and my sister is too.”

She has Marvin (who is a cat food thief) golden retriever, Donkey (who loves his belly rubbed) golden retriever, Marcel (cat, human food thief), and Prim (attention hog and sometimes known as the devil) rag doll.Her hobbies include Trains, planes and automobiles. No just kidding.  Making scrub shirts, cross stitching, plants etc… She enjoys listening to Latin beats, soft jazz, some techno music, music that doesn’t make my head hurt.
Beka is married and has two daughters and two grandsons.

McKenna S – Receptionist

McKenna graduated from Bingham High School in 2013 and attended a few courses at SLCC.

McKenna, at one point, hoped to move from working reception to training as a veterinary nurse. She found out blood isn’t her friend – and neither is the floor.

McKenna also enjoys drawing and playing video games.

She has one dog- Paisley.

McKinley R – Receptionist

Kinley joined PETCARE in early 2023 as one our receptionist.

She previously did a veterinary science internship during her school years.

She is interested in ape and monkey rehabilitation.

Kinley has three dogs and enjoys reading, boating, and going to concerts in her spare time.

Abby G – Receptionist

Abby joined PETCARE late 2023 as a receptionist.

She is currently attending the U for psychology.

She has 4 cats and 1 dog.

In her spare time, she likes playing video games, riding bikes, and spending time with her friends/family/pets.

Kierra S – Receptionist

Veterinary Nurses

Sage S – Veterinary Nurse, Social Media Manager, & Surgical Coordinator

Sage has worked at PETCARE Animal Hospital since we opened in 2008. Originally starting out as a hospital assistant, she is now one of our head veterinary nurses at PETCARE.

Sage is in charge of handling social media for PETCARE, assists with training employees, updates our digital sign, and most recently has become our surgical coordinator. Sage really enjoys dentistry, surgery, pharmacology, and the laboratory.
Sage graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology (with an emphasis in criminology) from the University of Utah in 2015.
Sage has 3 dogs (Forrest, Peppermint, and Yosemite) and 2 cats  (Seamus and Slick).
Sage is married, has two adorable little sons, and enjoys camping and traveling, avid Amazon Lover, and board games. She absolutely LOVES being a mom.

Erica C – Veterinary Nurse and Our Callback Queen

Erica has lived her whole life in Utah. Erica graduated from Herriman High School and received an associates in science at Utah Valley University in 2016.
Erica has 2 dogs (Duke and Dottie) and 1 cat (Puck).
Erica is married, loves being a mom to her son and her daughter, and enjoys camping and watching movies. She also likes spending time with family and friends.

Fun Fact! Puck and Slick (Sage’s cat) are siblings!

Ashlee W – Veterinary Nurse

Ashlee started the veterinary technician program through Jordan Applied Tech Center as a junior. She continued the program up until graduating at Herriman High in 2021. She currently attends UVU. Ashlee is hoping to reach the title of veterinarian one day. Currently, she loves watching (and fixing) anything gross.

Ashlee has two dogs (Phebee and Otis) and a beta fish (Jaws).

This youngling loves listening to pop music, watching movies and shows and Dylan O’Brien. She also likes to read, go for a swim, and play video games.

Ashlee is a HUGE lover of chicken sandwiches. Chicken sandwiches are her sole reason for being. Chick Fa La sandwiches are her favorite.

Brooke B – Veterinary Nurse

Brooke joined the PETCARE team in 2022. She started as a receptionist and worked her way up to a nurse.

Brooke attended JTEC during high school and enjoys working with all types of animals.

Her favorite thing to do is spend time with her dog, Ace.

Tevante (Tay) W – Veterinary Nurse

Tay grew up in Pennsylvania before moving to Utah.

Tay joined PETCARE as a receptionist and has recently trained to be a veterinary nurse. He hopes to a be a wildlife veterinarian.

In his spare time, he enjoys playing music with his band, listening to music (indie/pop/alternative), and spending time outdoors.

Ronna P – Veterinary Nurse

Ronna previously worked for PETCARE as a veterinary nurse and a receptionist.

After taking a few years off to wander the world, Ronna is back as one of our nurses!

Ronna has had a variety of pets over her life time – including cats, spiders, snakes, etc… (Even one foster squirrel named Rupert – later found to be Ruperta!) She currently has one cat – Pugz, a sphynx.

If Ronna got to pick anywhere in the world she could move to, it would be either Jamaica or Africa. She is a HUGE lover of anything Reggie.

Gabby B – Veterinary Nurse

Gabby joined PETCARE in 2021 – where she completed her externship from Broadview with us. She was so great we thought she would be a great addition to our team!

Gabby has obtained two associated degrees in general education, as well as her degree from Broadview University.

Gabby enjoys baking, sewing, writing books, drawing, painting, and reading in her spare time.

Gabby has 2 dogs (Sadie and Sox) and 2 cats (Oreo and Luna).

Bianca B – Veterinary Nurse – Fluent in Spanish

Bianca joined PETCARE in 2021 – after previously working at another clinic for 3yrs.

Bianca received her Approved Veterinary Assistant (AVA) certification from attending JATC while in high school.

Bianca is most interested in finding out why pets are sick and how to make them better.

In her spare time, she enjoys reading Japanese manga, playing video games, loves Marvel, and cosplay.

Bianca is an only child and has 2 birds (Lucy and Chiquita).

Allie S – Veterinary Nurse

Allie started as one of our hospital assistants and trained to become one of our nurses. She is currently working with Penn Foster (school) for Vet Tech Certification.

Her current interests include rodents and birds.

She has three dogs: Biggs, Coco, and Chance.

In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, gaming, and attending concerts.

 

 

 

 

Morgan S – Veterinary Nurse – Knows ASL

Morgan joined PETCARE in 2023. She previously worked as a receptionist and a tech at a previous clinic before being welcomed to our clinic.

She is interested in dermatology, cardiology, and nutrition.

She has one dog, Kira.

In her spare time, she enjoys reading, playing games, and traveling.
